Sydney 32: Intro

Following the great success of their Sydney 38 (58 boats sold worldwide), Australia's Sydney Yachts announces the new Sydney 32 One Design.

The family oriented nature of the new Sydney 32 is reflected not only in its Sydney Yachts pedigree, but also because the design embraces many comforts of home usually found on larger yachts. Aimed at the budget conscious end of the keelboat market, the Sydney 32 will be both a handsomely appointed cruising boat, as well as a rewarding performer on the race-track

As simplicity is one of the key design objectives, the Sydney 32 follows the latest trends with a fractional swept back runner-less rig and non-overlapping headsails. This configuration has proven to be a real winner, providing the cruising group with an easily handled sailplan, while supplying the racing camp with the challenge of tweaking the rig for that extra ounce of speed. To complete the sail wardrobe the Sydney 32 will have the ability to carry both masthead and fractional spinnaker

Targeted as an entry-level yacht, the sail area to displacement ratio has been intentionally kept to a manageable. Mind you, this combined with the highly efficient hull form and appendages will maintain the uncompromised performance.

At 31 feet 9 inches (9.68 meters) length overall with a 10 feet 6 inch (3.20 metres) beam, the Sydney 32 is not short on interior volume. The large volume allows the inclusion of a well-equipped galley, navigation area and comfortable settee in the saloon, as well as two double berths aft and spacious head with storage forward. To ensure cost effectiveness and durability, and hence the resale value of the design, the hull will be simply constructed using E-Glass over a balsa core.
